Demanding International Issues. Debate. Diplomacy. Resolution.

“It is not enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it. And it isn’t enough to believe in it. One must work at it.”

-Eleanor Roosevelt-

What is Model United Nations?

Research

Fully grasp the point of view of your assigned nation through research. Your own opinions must be replaced by the views informed by the culture and history of your represented nation.

Critical Thinking

Develop your critical thinking skills. Explore how the concepts of culture, history, national interest, and geography intersect to define a nation’s perspective on world affairs.

Debate

Engage in debate with other delegates. Advocate for your nation’s proposed method of resolving the issue at hand. Make allies, and take note of your adversaries.

Public Speaking

Improve your public speaking skills by making speeches and engaging in topics of a serious nature with other delegates.

Diplomacy

Convince your adversaries to join your side through compromise and diplomacy. Secure sponsors, signatories, and other voters for your draft resolutions and present them to the Dias.

Compromise

Get a taste for what real world diplomacy looks like. Appeal to other delegates by including provisions in your draft resolutions that appeal to their national interests.

Resolution

Draft resolutions alongside other delegates. Edit, negotiate, and reach agreements to maintain and grow support. Advocate it through further debate and pass the resolution into effect.

Substantive Writing

Strengthen your writing skills by composing substantive resolutions with the goal of solving problems that confound even the most skilled diplomats.
